Citation
Description Chapter inspect historical and cultural specifics contributing to shaping the self-system of adolescents. Authors show how an individual's self-reflection gradually emerged in the Euro-American culture not only as an important means of getting to know self and others but also as a crucial motivational and regulatory factor in the life of an individual. In regard to adolescence and personality development, forming personal identity was originally perceived as a specific developmental task; however, today it more likely becomes a lifelong personal issue. Finally authors point that identity as well as self conception are influenced not only by development but also by the group's and society's standards, that are valid for concrete cultures in a specific period of time.
