Citation
Description The paper is focused on the multi-faceted artistic output of the artist and the collector of the Oriental Art V. Oppenheimer, who was active before the World War 2 also as a bright art critic and journalist and able organizer of the art scene in Brno. Between 1930 and 1938, as a member of the committee of the Mährischer Kunstverein he had a major share in preparing eight grand retrospective exhibitions. It was to his credit that during the 1930s the exhibition programme of this union paid equal attention to the presentation of early and contemporary occidental art, and visual art expressions from outside Europe. During the preparation and organization of several exhibitions of art from the Far East he could apply his knowledge gained by many years of concentrated study, especially in relation to building his own collection of Japanese art, and could draw on the close personal contacts, that he maintained with other Czechoslovak collectors of art from the Far East.
