Description The aim of the publication was to gain some new information about health related fitness (HRF) of children attending the primary school (ISCED 1). The publication was focussed on descriptive characteristics of HRF, verification of references among chosen indicators of HRF and assessment of HRF differences among groups of children structured by gender and age (classes of the primary school). The study was based on Fitnessgram (physical fitness assessment test), body mass index (BMI) and a method identifying the body posture by Jaroš and Lomíček. The research base was 590 children between the age of 6 to 12. The Fitnessgram tests approved acceptable level of aerobic and muscular fitness and flexibility of Czech children. The body mass index tests indicate that 57 % of Czech children attending primary education level have normal weight, 18 % are overweight, 20 % are obese, and 5 % are underweight. The body posture tests show that more than 50% of Czech children attending primary education level have defective or very bad body posture. The research did not approve any statistical significant relations between the Fitnessgram tests and the tests of body posture. Based on the research findings we recommend for HRF assessing use the Fitnessgram tests along with the test of body posture. We also recommend use the HRF indicators for making individual physical programs to optimise HRF of children.
