Description The Russian-Georgian armed conflict in summer 2008 broke-out during the Olympics Games in Beijing. The aim of Georgia was to reintegrate South Ossetia and to restore territorial integrity of the state. From the western point of view the development escalated into the disproportional armed conflict between Russia and Georgia. The Russian reason to intervene in the conflict was to demonstrate to the western powers, that the region belongs to the Russian sphere of influence, and to suppress the western influence in Georgia. Due to the conflict, more than 30,000 people fled from South Ossetia. The aim of this study is to summarize the consequences of the armed conflict according to the different levels of analysis: international system, unit and subunit.
