| Description | The publication is devoted to the topic of in-stream large (dead) wood, and also of living trees in some cases, and their effects on functioning of riverine ecosystems. Terminological issues together with the description of large wood functions in rivers are discussed in the introductory chapters of the book. The characterisation of river reaches where large wood was studied in detail follows. The results of mapping and measurement of quantity, spatial distribution, position, recruiting mechanisms and processes, stability, sedimentological and geomorphological effects and transport by river flows (mobility) are presented. The book is an outcome of the basic research, however, the information gathered may be applied in the filed of river management and restoration. |
