Description Recent radiotherapy is a standard procedure for treatment of not only high-grade tumors but also some benign intracranial tumors. Despite its therapeutic potential, radiotherapy can act as a trigger for cancerogenesis. Meningiomas are the most frequent intracranial tumors induced by radiotherapy due to high radiosensitivity of meningeal tissue. Radiation-induced meningiomas differ from spontaneous meningiomas by its higher incidence in the younger age group. They are also more frequently multiple with histological abnormities and higher incidence of recurrence. First-choice therapy for radiation-induced meningiomas is a surgical treatment. Stereoradiosurgery appears to be choice for treatment of the progressive meningiomas in locations unsuitable for the surgical treatment. Three cases of radiation-induced meningiomas were found by retrospective study of patients treated at the Department of Neurosurgery, St. Anne’s University Hospital, Brno. In conclusion, radiation-induced meningiomas form a specific group of meningiomas. It is necessary to take account of their specific features during care for oncology patients.
