| Description | The chapter “Development of news reporting in printed and online media” deals with selected issues of news reporting, which remains the core of journalism as it brings information and facts. Opinion journalism is only built upon them. Features of opinion journalism nevertheless penetrate into news reporting as authors’ stories and comments. Besides containing basic information about what happened, an ideal piece of news nowadays also interprets events, phenomena and trends, includes an analysis, and presents the context. A piece no longer begins with “hard facts”, but with a personal story. The chapter defines the difference between a story-lead piece (when a story only appears in the lead) and the news feature where a story permeates the whole text. |
