Christian Hanus is a world-renowned expert in the field of cultural heritage, the environment, monument preservation, and construction, with a special focus on architecture and engineering. His name is associated with Danube University Krems, where he has been working since 2007. He founded and led several research centres there dealing with architectural heritage, cultural monument preservation, and environmental protection. He works in both academia and practice, in various positions that allow him to apply his rich international experience and expertise. The research laboratory he heads, “Sustainable Building Cultural Heritage” (Nachhaltiges Baukulturelles Erbe), has recently gained international visibility. From a sustainability perspective, it focuses on researching the parameters of preserving, using, and developing building cultural heritage.

A proposal to grant an honorary degree of Doctor Honoris Causa in the field of Education was submitted by the Faculty of Education of Masaryk University. The graduation ceremony was held on 2 October 2025. A brochure introducing the nominee was issued on the occasion of the awarding of this honorary doctorate.
