Czech historiography has so far dealt with history of emigration from the Czech lands, and especially with the history of Czechs living abroad, to a relatively limited extent. However, it has become more and more evident that out knowledge of Zcech national history would be incomplete without the knowledge of the history of our countrymen living behind the frontier. To give one example from many let me reming of the support provided by Czech emigrants to the first, the second, or the third revolt here. That is why the causes, nature and consequences of Czech emigration constitute one of the major issues of Czech modern history.
