The formation of musical interests, preferences and, to some extent, abilities of young people is nowadays enormously influenced by multimedia. Youth are surrounded by a multitude of musical expressions of different types and genres, quality, or provenance, often of Anglo-American origin. Although musical folklore is an important part of Czech national culture and permeates music education activities at all levels of schools, the question of how to present it to young people in the light of the influence of multiple cultural expressions is increasingly coming to the fore. In the process of transmitting the values of folk music and the song fund of our ancestors, the personality of the teacher plays an important role. It depends on his or her professional and didactic erudition and approach to the given music, as well as on his or her skills to motivate pupils, even in the case of the folklore song group, which is rather on the periphery of the interest of today's youth. Two research studies conducted by the Department of Music Education of the Faculty of Masaryk University were aiming at the above stated issues. In the year 2019, this was quantitative research with the aim of capturing the current state of the application of folk song and instrumental music in school education. In 2020, a research project was prepared to capture the attitudes of HV teachers towards selected examples of folklore music. However, this qualitative research, based on the sound (music) questionnaire technique, could not be carried out in the spring months of 2020 due to the pandemic, so the project is being revisited in the following period. This time it will be conducted online and expanded to include music pedagogical aspects.
