The category of the middle classes represents one of the key categories not only in the sociology and politology, but also for other social sciences. It is supposed that just the middle classes are able to secure the social integrity creating the base fo r democracy. The sociological literature has analysed in detail the development of the old middle classes and the new ones. The applicant suggests that the whole development of these strata has so much changed their character that they are not able to fu lfil both their integration and their stabilisation function in contemporary society.
