| Description | This paper presents the analysis and assessment of land use changes in the Svitava upper River basin. Land use changes were studied on the basin of set of old topographic maps from five periods (1836–1852, 1876, 1953–1956, 1994, 2002–2006). Data for the analysis were obtained through vectorization in ArcGIS environment over the sets of old maps. More recent maps sets were processed by using available vector data. The changes in the proportion of the individual land use categories (9 basis land use categories), the number of changes in land use, stable areas and the intensity of land use were assessed. In the Svitava upper River basin 32 % of the area was changed. More than 60 % of the region was marked as stable with the prevailing stable categories of arable land and forest. In the Svitava upper River basin extensification (16 %) of the changes in the landscape prevailed over intensification (9 %). |
