• Description: The collection of papers includes a number of review texts that were put together by academics and students of the Institute for Research in School Education of Masaryk University's Faculty of Education. The first paper looks at the role of teachers in the society from a historical perspective. The following paper summarises the mission and realised activities of the Institute for Research in School Education. The third and fourth chapters present review studies that concentrate on selected areas of educational research (curriculum, school climate, teaching and learning etc.). In the fifth chapter, the project SINUS is introduced as an as example of good practice in establishing intervention programmes that use research findings to help teachers and schools improve teaching and learning.
