Description Malaise in the city is in the continuity of infected City, dehumanized city, appeared in the same collection. While pursuing multidisciplinary enterprise of the first book, the reflection were expanded, as the reference period. The research program "French and Francophone literary reconstructions of socio-political, historical and scientific areas" has brought together writers, philosophers, sociologists and historians, planners, cognitive science specialists and, of course, to literary criticism, s interesting the "unhappiness" in urban areas. The book is organized in four areas: the first part is devoted to viewpoints on the sustainability of feeling unwell; the second reflects the urban malaise at the crossroads of literature, urban planning and sociology; the third addresses the issue of conflicting interactions between language (s), geography, gender, economics and religion. Finally, the fourth section, on the paths of criticism and literary creation, seeks to highlight the malaise city through art. These studies, conducted through the places and eras - from the Middle Ages to the most contemporary period - shed new light on the urban imaginary "depressed" or "melancholy" and the terms of identity redefinitions, sometimes drastic , which are subject individuals. They further show that these phenomena are in no way confined to a supposed postmodernity.
