| Description | The paper presents the possibilities of using the statistical analysis of Latin language tests, developed at the Medical Faculty of Masaryk University within the IMPACT project. The introductory part deals with the reasons for the use of a statistical analysis in language testing; it is followed by the interpretation of an output obtained from a statistical analysis of particular tests using the SPSS statistical program. The output provides values of the average, difficulty of test items, discrimination index, and Cronbach’s alpha if item deleted. These indicators are described and explained in terms of their relevance and importance for language testing. For multiple choice questions, the analysis of distractor function is discussed. Statistical analysis is slowly becoming part of the process of making final language tests as the feedback it provides has an important contribution to increasing the reliability and validity tests. |
