Description Recently, so called practice-oriented research is advocated in psychotherapy and counseling. The aim of this kind of research is to examine the process and the effect of psychotherapy and counseling interventions in routine practice. In therapeutic and counseling services, software monitoring systems are increasingly being used to continually monitor the effect of the care provided (e.g., OQ-Analyst, CORE Net, and FIT). Research shows that using feedback information from these systems has a positive impact on the effectiveness of therapeutic and counseling practice - it helps prevent client deterioration and reduce dropout. In this paper, the principles of these systems will be outlined and the benefits and drawbacks of routine outcome monitoring will be summarized, as well as its implementation into practice. Emerging Czech adaptations of measures used to monitor psychotherapy outcome and process will be also mentioned.
