Description The aim of the review is to summarize the topic of interparental confllict in connection with communication that follows the conflict. Attention is paid to different types of conflicts and their association to children’s and adolescent‘s problems with adaptation. The review also focuses on the impact of interparental conflict on parental role. The typical reactions of parents towards their children about the past conflicts and the impact of different explanations are discussed. Also the impact of finding a solution to the conflict is discussed. Supportive strategies for a child are shown to be protective. The essential thing is congruence between the situation that was witnessed by the child and the information that the parents tell the child. It is also important to give the child clear and comprehensible explanation about the child not being the reason for the parental conflicts. The influence of family context is mentioned. Possibilities of application in the practice are described in the end of the review. Transfer of the information into Czech environment and limitations of existing studies are discussed.
