Citation
Description The paper aims to integrate the existing knowledge in the field of failure at the shool-leaving examination and to present, among other things, a part dealing specifically with vocational education. At the same time, the contribution aims to present the initial findings of subjectively perceived factors of failure and other life paths of unsuccessful first-try graduates from 2018, who were pupils of vocational education. The new findings presented here are the results of the pilot part of the research from the project Life Pathways of Unsuccessful Graduates. This part of the research project, which will be presented in the paper, explores the subjective perception of failure in the school-leaving examination in the 2018 trial period and retrospectively examines the pupils‘ life and educational paths two years after their first failure in the school-leaving examination. The research tool is individual interviews. The paper provides insight into the issue of unsuccessful graduates‘ lives. Also, it presents the first findings of subjective factors of failure that may affect the failure of graduates in the school-leaving examination. Other results of the research are the findings of development of young people‘s life and the educational path they chose after their failure, what influences their choices and what motives and barriers lead them or prevent them from re-passing (successfully) the school-leaving examination.
