| Description | Gastroesophageal reflux disease is the most common disease in gastroenterology, affecting 20–30 % of the population in developed countries. Extraesophageal reflux is a relatively new clinical unit that has different risk factors, symptoms, pathophysiology and response to therapy than gastroesophageal reflux disease. Therefore, a distinction needs to be made between these clinical units and a different diagnostic and therapeutic approach to patients with extraesophageal reflux is required. |
