Description The paper attempts to shed new light on the circumstances of the death of Joanna of Bavaria, Roman and Bohemian queen and the first wife of Wenceslas IV. Her demise in 1386 has so far been attributed either to the bite of the king's hound or to a plague. However, a newly discovered Italian source convincingly demonstrates that the cause of Joanna's death was a febrile disease, probably tuberculosis.
