Description Depot dosage forms in psychopharmacology are gaining importance and are more effective than conventional p.o. dosage forms. The development of depot dosage forms is currently focused on the study of microparticles. Microparticles based on a copolymer of lactic acid and glycolic acid (PLGA) were prepared for parenteral administration containing the antidepressant mirtazapine. The drug content, morphology and dissolution test were evaluated for the prepared microparticles. Based on frequent sampling, the pharmacokinetic profile of administered microparticles was determined using a previously developed and validated HPLC method. The serum was further used to determine liver tests, the lipid spectrum and selected adipokines.
