Keywords bromine; iodine; rat; thyroid gland
Description In the rat thyroid gland, the biological bahaviour of bromine is similar to the behaviour of iodine, and not to that of chlorine as in other organs. Because the time course of bromine excretion in adult rats substantially differed from iodine excretion, the half-life values of bromine in 14 more tissues and organs were determined. They were in the range from 94+15 h in the thyroid to 235+89 h in the liver, while the whole-body value equalled 198+22 h.
