Description We explore the possibilities of gamification in e-learning at the Masaryk university. Here we were interested in the attitudes of university students of selected courses with an e-learning component. In an online questionnaire, we asked what motivates them to study and what potential they see in the utilisation of game principles in e-learning. These were mostly bachelor students aged 18–25. Research into the motivational potential of gamification in an online learning environment has allowed us to gain a clearer understanding of the user experience with the university system. Based on the findings, we present suggestions for teachers and developers how to improve e-learning design in line with students’ needs and preferences.
