Description The poster presentation is devoted to the issue of the underground gas storage Dolni Dunajovice that is with an average length of 8 km and a width of 800 m the biggest reservoir of gas in the Czech Republic. The study concerns the geological development of the southern part of the Western Carpathian Foredeep (peripheral foreland basin) in Moravia, especially during Miocene, when the Eggenburgian Dunajovice sandstones were laid and which create a gas storage horizon. The actual research is built on the study of drilling cores and well logging measurements. Examined are the contents of heavy minerals mainly zircon, tourmaline, staurolite, rutile, garnet and their probable origin from metapelites of Moravicum and the Cadomian granitic rocks of the Brno massif. These results are also compared with laboratory gamma-ray spectroscopy and geochemistry analysis, which gives a proper view of the provenance and paleoenviroment of the area of interest. In addition, the representation of grain fractions is evaluated and which in combination with the variable contains of organic matter and glauconite reflects a variable sedimentation environment. Facies analysis with interpretation is also an output of the core study and is evaluated in combination with well logging (Gamma ray, resistivity, SP) in the whole area of the reservoir in Petrel program.
