Description The study examines a five-year-period in the life and creative journey of the leading Brno composer Osvald Chlubna (1893–1971). Apart from a list and brief characteristics of the particular works, there will be an analysis of the performances and period reception, making reference, when appropriate, to the author’s analyses. The text will also provide information on the editions of Chlubna’s compositions and the awards received for them. The composer’s further creative development can be seen with certain compositions (in particular Wind Quintet, op. 45, Concert d minor for piano and orchestra, op. 46). The works sing of the natural world (From the Hillsides, Mountains and Forests, op. 40), are concerned with philosophical (On the Day of the Beginning, op. 43) or with compositional-technical questions (Three Preludes, op. 42). There are also humorous tones (Wind Quintent, op. 45) and movements toward a distinct synthesis of Impressionism and Romanticism (Concerto d minor for piano and orchestra, op. 46).
