Description From the water - methanol solution of Cu(II) - LN - [Ni(CN)4]2- (1:2:1) (LN = N, N-dimethylethylenediamine (dmen); N,N'-dimethylethylenediamine (bmen); N,N,N',N'-tetramethylethylenediamine (tmen) ) were isolated three new compounds: Cu(dmen)2Ni(CN)4 (CDNC), Cu(bmen)2Ni(CN)4 (CBNC) and Cu(tmen)Ni(CN)4 (CTNC). The result of X-ray structure analysis have shown that CDNC exhibits one-dimensional structure and consists of infinite quasi-linear 2,2-TT chains [-NC-Ni(CN)2-CN-Cu(dmen)2-] running parallel with the c axis. The results of elemental analyses and IR spectra suggest similarities between CBNC and CDNC with respect to the composition and structure. On the other hand, CTNC has only one tmen ligand in the copper atom co-ordination sphere, and as a consequence, other type of structure containing terminal and bridging cyano groups has been formed. The results of EPR spectroscopy indicate the local symmetry at unpaired electron centre is (almost) uniaxial for CDNC, rhombic for CBNC, and uniaxial for CTNC.
