Description The development of the pond fish culture in the Czech Republic and its changes since the end of the 19th century are presented. As an example of the changes, several fish ponds from the basin of Třeboň in southern Bohemia were chosen. A comparison of frequencies of plant species of exposed pond bottoms, which were found in this region in 1930-1938 and 1999-2001, was expressed. It shows the intensive decline of some plant species, e. g. Gypsophila muralis, Gnaphalium luteo-album, Illecebrum verticillatum, Crassula aquatica, Littorella uniflora etc., in the fishponds. However, most of these endangered species recently still occur in storage ponds, sand pits, moist fields, and other similar habitats. The problem of preservation of endangered species from the point of view of nature conservation as well as from point of view of the fishpond management is discussed.
