Description This contribution endeavours to answer the question how, and how strongly, the innovative potential of schools open to their environment can influence school culture. To interpret the innovative potential, the contents analysis of headteachersuncensored comments about the openness of their schools was used. Such openness is demonstrated through activities like the presentation of the school, the efforts to maintain the cohesiveness between the school and its environment, the cooperation with the surrounding subjects, and so on; while the work with resources and the achievement of values based on principles of communication and cooperation is what supports such openness. The presentation of the school seems to undergo a self-renewing innovational process but headteachers apparently lack in their efforts to chance things. As for the relational openness, headteachers tend to have a considerable impart upon the cooperation with the surrounding subjects. The innovational potential is strong in values and principles too, with teachers aspiring to extend openness towards other milieu and strengthen the external stakeholdersmotivation.
