Description The study was supported by GACR project. The first chapter is aimed on microeconomic aspects of railway transport markets, on a relationship between the state and railway operators, and on railway markets competition. A historical method was applied in the second chapter to solve an origin of temporary railway problems. Connected the third chapter was based on economic history of railways using a theory of products life time cycle. Principles and results of applied European common transport policy were discussed in the fourth chapter. The Czech railway network was analyzed in the fifth chapter using a historical method and applying a principle of path dependence. The financial analysis of the Czech railway transport was made in the sixth final chapter.
