Description We have used magnetic-activated cell sorting (MACS) and/or fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS) for the separation of plasma cells (PC) from bone marrow aspirates from patients with multiple myeloma (MM) using human antibodies CD138 MACS Micro- Beads or CD138-PE antibodies that recognize the plasma cell surface antigen CD138 (syndecan-1). Isolated PC can be used for molecular biology studies of MM such as PCR analysis, comparative genomic hybridization (CGH), fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), protein analysis, analysis of cell surface markers, and/or intracellular antigens.
