Description International agreement is a legal instrument of external relations of EU. International agreement is the only suitable tool for the stipulation of specific issues concerning the relationship of the EU with non-member countries and international organisations or bodies. The practical need for the negotiation of international agreements is indicated by the fact that the EU is currently bound in relation to third States or international organisations by hundreds of international agreements in many areas, from commercial (economic) relationships to legal cooperation e.g. in criminal matters. The following areas are the subject of examination: 1. Power of the EU as subject of international law to conclude international agreements with third parties, 2. internal procedures within the EU in the negotiation of these agreements, 3. effects of international agreements within the EU legal system.
