| Description | Aim: To verify the ability of the Czech version of a screening test for detection of aphasia the Mississippi Aphasia Screening Test (MASTcz) to discriminate between aphasia due to stroke in the dominant hemisphere and cognitive-communication disorder in dementia. Patients and Methods: Group A comprised 149 patients, 74 women and 75 men, aged 68; 19-95 years (median; range) with aphasia due to stroke. Group B consisted of 52 patients, 26 women and 26 men, aged 74; 41-84 years (median; range) that complied with the diagnostic criteria for dementia according to Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (4th edition, revised version). Results: The ROC analysis showed high power of MASTcz to discriminate between aphasia in stroke patients and cognitive-communication disorder in demented cases (p<0.001). Using the cutt-off value of the MASTcz total index of 85 points, the sensitivity and sepcificity of the MASTcz in detection of aphasia was 88.6% and 81.40, respectively. |
