Description The Masaryk University Language Center is focusing on standardizing methods and forms of testing students' foreign language knowledge. One of the teams involved in the COMPACT project specializes in compiling model English and German final tests at the B1, B2 and C1 levels. The first stage focused on elaborating a test structure, making the tests mutually compatible in terms of their form, and setting an appropriate maximum score. Subsequently, the test authors started to make test items; they considered not only test reliability and validity, but also further circumstances, i.e. copyright issues and the possibility to implement the tests to the university information system. Having checked and pre-tested the tests, their statistical analysis is currently underway; its goal is to evaluate the rate of reliability and validity of the tests. Then the authors will finalize the tests, pre-test them again, and finally provide Language Center teachers with the model tests and a methodological guidebook.
