Masaryk University #400 in the QS World University Rankings

Masaryk University has achieved a historic success with its ranking at the 400th position in the 20th edition of the international QS World University Rankings. In the Czech Republic, MU ranked 2nd behind Charles University. In total, 2,963 institutions from 104 countries got reviewed in the QS WUR this year. 1,499 of them reached a rank successfully, which is 77 more institutions than previous year (1,422).

The QS WUR assessment in 2023 has undergone a significant change in methodology - the set of indicators monitored has been expanded and their weights adjusted. The best results were achieved by MU in a new indicator Sustainability, in which it ranked in a shared position 207= with a score of 69.9. Other strong MU indicators include International Students Ratio (215th position), another new indicator International Research Network (276th position) and Employer Reputation (305th position).

Position of MU in THE Impact Rankings 2023

In 2023, Masaryk University again actively participated in the international THE Impact Rankings, which aims to map the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by higher education institutions. In this year's ranking, MU was ranked 401st–600th overall among 1,591 universities worldwide. Compared to the previous year (301st-400th position), it dropped one shared position, returning to its overall rank from 2021.

As in the previous year, MU participated in and submitted data to the assessment of 4 UN SDGs out of 17. This year, MU continued to improve its ranking in the SDG 17 Partnerships for the goals, being in the 201st-300th position (301st-400th last year) and taking the leading position in CZ. Similarily with SDG 17 MU  achieved position 201st-300th in SDG 16 Peace, justice, and strong institutions (same as last year's rank). There was a year-on-year deterioration in rankings for SDGs 3 Good health and well-being and SDG 4 Quality education, tied for 301st-400th position.

Among Czech universities, MU is ranked 1st for SDG 17, 2nd for SDG 3 and SDG 16, 3rd for SDG 4.

MU in UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2022

In 2022 again Masaryk University got ranked in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings. Universitas Indonesia (UI) initiated world university rankings in 2010, later known as UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, to measure campus sustainability efforts in the areas of infrastructure, management of water resources, energy and waste, or sustainability related education and research.

MU keeps improving its position and ranked 115th among 1050 world institutions. By participating in the rankings, universities express their concern about the evaluated topics.

MU ranked in the very first year of the new QS Sustainability ranking

In 2022, brand new ranking, QS World University Rankins: Sustainability, with focus on sustainable development topics has been triggered by Quacquarelli Symonds. Out of 700 world universities in the ranking, Masaryk University shares position of 281–300 this year. Within the Czech Republic MU places as 2nd behind Charles University, among other Czech universities also Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague (ČZU) and Palacký University Olomouc (UPOL) got into the ranking.
