Popis Study focused on the Šitbořice Member of the Menilite Formation in the Ždánice Unit brought following results: • TOC values ranging from 0.63 to 6.87 %wt. with the average of 2.90 %wt.. There is no evident TOC trend. • The source rock potential of the Šitbořice Member is in this research classified mostly as “very good” according to TOC and variable, mostly “poor” to “good” according to the petroleum potential of S1+S2 values. The average petroleum potential value assigned the evaluated Šitbořice Member to “good” source rock. • All samples are immature based on both the random vitrinite reflectance (from 0.24 to 0.31 %) and Rock-Eval Temperature Tmax (from 400 to 424 °C). • The HI ranges from 53 to 541 mg HC/g TOC indicating the presence of kerogen type II and III. Cross-plot of HI to Tmax shows that there is no major difference in kerogen type between studied cores. However, all of the samples from Mouchnice-1 (Core No° 6) belong to the kerogen type III. • A detailed examination demonstrates the organic matter in the Šitbořice Member belongs to the kerogen type II (kerogen type I is not excluded) with admixture of changeable amount of kerogen type III. All of the samples are fairly homogeneous both lithologically and with respect to the maceral composition. • The immaturity indicates the presence of the biological thermally labile organic matter that can release during the laboratory measurements more effluents. Moreover, both the relationship of Rock-Eval S2 peak versus TOC (Dahl et al., 2004) and HI based on reactive organic carbon indicate kerogen type II.
