Popis The lecture will present various chapters from an early history of American drama in the 18th and 19th centuries. It will focus on the birth of various genres, character types and staple scenes, which have become an inseparable staple of the American popular culure, as well as the artistic imagery of the English-speaking world (and, by extension, the whole cultural sphere where it is hegemonious). It will study early developments of genres such as the western and wild west show, of character types such as the stage Yankee, the frontiersman and the gunslinger, and staple scenes like the damsel in mistress – all of which are so common, well-known and everyday that we often forget about their original appearances, forms and purposes. The talk will present early American drama as a source of a variety of contemporary features within the American, as well as our own, popular culture.
