    • Joining the research project ACCESS - "Gatekeepers to International Refugee Law? – The Role of Courts in Shaping Access to Asylum" at the University of Bologna will be a unique opportunity for the student to significantly develop her research skills in terms of content and methodology and, consequentially, to address her thesis research questions and collaborate to the project as will be demonstrated below. Luisa’s PhD thesis aims to analyse the impact of temporary protection mechanisms activated in the aftermath of migration crises on refugee integration policies through an interdisciplinary comparative approach between the main policies implemented by Brazil and the Czech Republic. At the same time, the research project ACCESS - "Gatekeepers to International Refugee Law? – The Role of Courts in Shaping Access to Asylum" at the University of Bologna primary objective is to investigate how domestic and supranational courts interpret the compatibility of state-developed barriers to accessing asylum with the Refugee Convention and other international human rights instruments, which deeply resonates with her research focus and questions. It will be particularly useful to her thesis the project’s emphasis on analysing and comparing court rulings across jurisdictions in the global south and global north, assessing patterns, and identifying the socio-legal factors influencing these outcomes. Furthermore, Brazil will be one of the jurisdictions covered by ACCESS, allowing her to dive deep into this jurisdiction and answer the related research questions. Other than that, the methodological choices for writing her thesis, which comprises a combination of legal comparative analysis and socio-legal qualitative research methods, are fully aligned with the ACCESS project as both will use legal comparative and qualitative content analysis in addition to conducting semi-structured interviews. This methodological symmetry will enhance her ability to conduct an empirically driven comparative analysis, focusing on key integration rights in the aftermath of temporary protection mechanisms' activation. Engaging with the diverse jurisdictions investigated in the project will expand her understanding of the global landscape of asylum law and refine her comparative legal analysis skills. The opportunity to collaborate with esteemed researchers and legal professionals involved in the ACCESS project will undoubtedly enhance her academic and professional network. Active participation in ACCESS will expose her to cutting-edge research methodologies and foster the development of critical research and analytical skills.
