Popis It has been proved that algae have ability to uptake of toxic metals from polluted environment. Their tolerance to uptake toxic metals gives the promising potential to cleaning polluted water – bioremediation. Algae can also be alternative for production of carbon-based fuels through process of photosynthesis. Due to the fact, it is necessary to have a tool capable of fast, in-situ and in-vivo, analysis. Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) can satisfy the above mentioned needs. In this work, Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) in liquid jets was used for the analysis of algal suspension. Algal suspensions of Trachydiscus minutus and Chlorella vulgaris were selected for the experiments. Measurements were utilized via specially develop setup equipped with nozzle, focusing and collecting optics. Laser beam was focused on the continuous thin flow of the liquid. The algal suspension was pumped into special nozzle via peristaltic pump. The study was focused on the detection of trace amounts of Cu in algal suspension. Quantification of Cu in algal suspension was also performed by ICP-OES.
