Popis Aim Determine the quality and safety of some processes in surgical wards. Introduction Unfortunately patient harm from errors in health care is common in modern surgical practice1. Modern high-technology surgery carries significant dangers for the patient. It is now widely accepted that between 4% and 15% of patients are directly harmed by the care they receive in hospital 2-7 and an urgent need for improvement in the safety and quality of care is recognized8-10. Adverse events have been estimated to affect 3–16% of all hospitalized patients, and more than half of such events are known to be preventable 11,12. Surgical safety has therefore emerged as a significant global public health concern. Some of the safety-processes observed were: 1. Communication between doctors and nurses. 2. Hand washing and disinfection before and after contact with patients. 3. Infection control (catheters, nosocomial, etc). 4. DVT prophylaxis. 5. Management of patient´s records by doctors and nurses (completeness). Correct maintenance of medical records is one of the basic assumptions of safe care. It serves healthcare professionals who are involved in care, to obtain complete information about the patient and ensures continuity of care within the hospital. Check the correctness and completeness of medical records are authorized representatives of all wards. 6. Patient´s records internal audits. 7. Medical prescription. 8. Information provided to patients. The main goal of hospital management is to engage all staff in order to provide quality health care, by means of clearly defined standards. These safety-processes not only improve patient´s safety but also to the security personnel. The aim of the quality management system is the early detection and removal of various risks, which thus leads to increased safety in health care
