Research Group Leader

in Advanced Therapy Medicinal Product (ATMP) Research & Development

The Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University in Brno is hosting The Central European Advanced Therapy and Immunotherapy Centre (CREATIC), a Horizon Europe Teaming for Excellence centre set up in collaboration with Fraunhofer IZI, University of Leipzig and University of Copenhagen (www.creatic.muni.cz). The CREATIC centre started in January 2024 and will enable a scientific career development of high potential early-career researchers with significant international experience.

Currently, we are looking for a new Research group leader (RGL) who would like to develop himself/herself both professionally and personally and start an own research group. Research Group Leader will contribute significantly to advancing the field of ATMP research and driving scientific innovation within the National Institute for Cancer Research – so far, the largest project of academic cancer research in the Czech Republic. The activities of the new research group will be covered by the Centre CREATIC.
 

His/her main tasks will include:

  • Research Leadership: Lead and oversee research projects related to ATMPs, including cell and gene therapy development, manufacturing, and regulatory issues. Develop and execute research plans in line with the center's objectives.
  • Team Management: Recruit, mentor, and supervise early-career researchers within their research group. Foster a collaborative and supportive research environment conducive to scientific excellence and career development.
  • Publication and Grant Writing: Publish research findings in high-impact journals and secure external funding through grant writing and project proposals. Maintain a strong publication record and actively seek opportunities for research funding.
  • International Collaboration: Collaborate with researchers and institutions nationally and internationally to enhance research networks and promote knowledge exchange. Actively participate in international scientific conferences and meetings.


The successful candidate should:

  • hold a Ph.D. degree;
  • research activity at the level of R3 - national expert, preferably at internationally competitive level;
  • at least 1 external project as PI or co-PI currently being implemented;
  • demonstrate a sufficient publication activity:
    • 20 original papers, 10 of which as first or corresponding author, 5 in IF journals, 3 of which as first or corresponding author, and 1 above the field median in WoS,
    • in case of a first-author original paper in Q1, the minimum number of original papers is 10, 5 of which as first or corresponding author, might be negotiated;
    • sufficient citations in WoS: 35 citations without self-citations
    • H-index > 15 for group leader candidates over 40 years of age;
  • active involvement in international scientific cooperation;
  • regular active participation in international scientific conferences;
  • eligibility to lead a research group.


Specific criteria:

  • have experience in the field of cell and/or gene research,
  • have experience with CAR cell development and/or manufacturing or gene therapy development and/or manufacturing (an advantage),
  • is familiar with ATMP regulatory issues (an advantage),
  • have excellent communication skills and teamwork.
