The project examines the impacts of law enforcement interventions targeting illicit methamphetamine laboratories on crime levels and public health outcomes in the Czech Republic. As the main producer and consumer of methamphetamine in Central Europe, the Czech Republic provides a unique context for analyzing the regional consequences of disruptions to local production networks. Using a range of event-study statistical methods, the project identifies the short- and medium-term effects of lab busts on crime rates and health indicators, including wastewater data and pharmaceutical consumption. The study integrates the criminal, health, and environmental dimensions of the so-called “Czech way” of methamphetamine production. This research forms the first paper of my doctoral dissertation.
