| Popis | The Poles belong in the Czech Republic to the historical national minority. The minor group of this nationality lives also in Brno. The history of this city was influenced in the history by significant personalities of the Polish origin, by the Polish associations and by the polonophil groups. In the Middle Ages the culture of Brno a the southern Moravia was influenced significantly by Czech and Polish Queen Elisabeth Richeza, founder of convent in the Old Brno and buyer of extraordinarily precious collection of illuminated manuscripts. Very significant there were also the visits of Polish kings and queens, above all of the King Jan III. Sobieski in the year 1683. There is connected with the Polish also the Brno castle Špilberk where there were in the 30s and the 40s of the 19th century imprisoned about 200 fighters for national freedom. The citizens of Brno expressed to these political prisoners the support and likings which were transmitted on all the Poland and the Polish. The economic life of Moravia was influenced also by the Polish aristocratic dynasties Mniszek and Stadnicky. In the 20th century there began to come into existence the Polish and polonophile organisations. The first one, Ognisko Polskie, came into existence already in the year 1910. The most significant of these organisations, Československo-polský klub in Brno, arose in the year 1925 and it existed up to the year 1952 when it was dissolved for political reasons. Its chairman was Maxmilián Kolaja, lecturer of Polish at the Faculty of Arts of the Masaryk university and one the most significant polonophile in Brno. In the activities of the Československo-polský klub there began to continue in the year 1997 POLONUS – Klub Polski existing up to now. |
