Popis Candidates play a central role in elections under the majority system. However, their role is also significant in elections under the proportional rule. This paper deals with the localization and role of candidates in the Czech Republic as an example of a country with the proportional electoral system. The basic question that this paper attempts to answer is: “Where do the candidates of relevant parties come from?” Three different types of elections are analysed - regional, parliamentary and European elections held in the Czech Republic. The different geographical organization on each level is assumed due to the different numbers of candidates and different ways of selecting them. The answer to this question is found through the use of map drawing with the distribution of candidates in the space of the state. An additional examination deals with the effect of candidate localization on the results of preferential voting (minor competitions within the party lists for selecting the candidates and achieving mandates obtained by their party) and also on the support for the party. In this regard, the concept of friends-and-neighbours effect is used and it is assumed that there is a higher support in municipalities with candidates and in their near surroundings. This hypothesis is tested with linear regression with the control for the structure of society.
