| Popis | In reconstructed verbal morphology of the Indo-European protolanguage the vocalic quantity played a grammatical role. This feature is relatively unique in language families of Northwest Eurasia. It is missing even in the Kartvelian protolanguage, where the qualitative ablaut analogous to the Indo-European ‘Schwebeablaut’ is reconstructible (Gamkrelidze 1967; Antilla 1969, 177-78). Practically the only exception among neighbouring language (macro)families is Afroasiatic. The contribution is concentrated on comparison of parallel verbal formations with vocalic quantity in both Indo-European and Afroasiatic. |
