Klíčová slova Taiwan China PRC ROC Cross-strait relations economic exchange
Popis We live in a world in which security is becoming a priority number one. All around the world we can find frozen conflicts which, if awaken, could cause important imbalance. One of such conflicts is between the People´s Republic of China (PRC) and the Republic of China (ROC). In the year 2014 massive protests were accompanying the signature of an agreement leading to higher economic integration between the two parties. The aim of this paper is to assess the relationship between the PRC and ROC and analyze the impact a growing economic dependence could have on security in the Taiwan Strait. We find out that the deepening links are not likely to be used by the PRC as a leverage for political pressure unless the political goals are of such importance that PRC itself will be willing to pay high costs to which a disruption of economic links would definitely lead.
