Popis The author attempts to present the displacement of the German population from postwar Czechoslovakia. The main assumption - to remove ethnic minorities - was not dictated by demographic reasons but rather by the necessary need to assure internal security. Assuring ethnic homogenity of the country became main goal of many politicians at the time. Germans were not to be assimilated. The author stresses the fact that the international situation and Allies´ stance influenced the implementation of the policy toward ethnic minorities. That is why Slovakian Hungarians, whose displacement outside Czechoslovakia was opposed by the Allies, were ressetled within the borders of the country and uderwent re-Slovakization. The displacement of the German population resulted in population decrease which could not be compensated by remigration of Czechs from abroad. Another result was the shortage of skilled workers.
