| Popis | In the present article the nominal derivatives of the Indo-European verb **H3reiH- ‘to set in motion’ are analyzed from semantic and morphological points of view. These derivatives form a remarkable semantic field defined by such meanings as ‘watercourse’ - ‘river’ - ‘riverbed’ - ‘shallow’ - ‘sandbank’ - ‘sand’ - ‘sandhill’. It is natural that such terms serve as bases for hydronyms. For illustration of similar semantic dispersion examples from Afroasiatic are used. |
