Popis | The first vast campaign to restore historic monuments in the history of modern Romania was led by the French architect André Lecomte du Noüy (1844-1914), one of the main pupils of Eugene-Emmanuel Viollet-le-Duc. This contribution focuses in particular on the multiple interactions between the French architects and the Romanian architects and authorities who led, between 1874 and 1890, the symbolic and architectural transformation of the best-known Historic Monument in Romania at the time, the former monastery of Curtea de Argeş. The study shows how Viollet-le-Duc's ideas and teachings were filtered and reinterpreted in different ways by Lecomte du Noüy, local architects and other Romanian decision-makers. |
