Popis | The main goal of this article is a long-term cross-sectional and cohort analysis of nuptiality of single men and women in Slovakia. We try to analyze the quantum and tempo and also identify the main development trends from the beginning of the 20th century to the present. Using a spe¬cialized analysis of the process of postponement and recuperation, we also try to estimate the possible development scenarios of cohort marriage rates of men and women born from the mid-1970s to the second half of the 1990s. No less important is the question of how timing has changed at the regional level. Are we witnessing the persistence of regional differences or convergence tendencies? Have there been any changes in the spatial pattern of regions with an earlier or, conversely, later start of marriage trajectories? From a historical point of view, Slovakia belonged to countries characterized by an early start of marriage careers and a high intensity of marriage. The model of early and almost universal marriage was even more consolidated due to the specific conditions of the previous political regime. However, in the new social, political, cultural and economic conditions after 1989, it did not find application and was very dynamically abandoned. This was associated with a significant drop in the intensity of first marriages, as well as an increase in the mean age at first marriage. Our results show that without a significant recovery, we will witness further decline. This will be reflected in the increasing shares of men and women who will not have any experience with marriage. The analysis of regional differences in the timing of first marriages confirmed the persistence of approximately equally large differences. However, it did not confirm the spatial image valid from the beginning of the 20th century. |
