Popis Throughout the 19th century, detective and paranormal (ghost) fiction developed into distinct genres. The figures of the ghosthunter and especially the detective have kept their iconic status to this day. Neo-Victorian queer paranormal romance novels published in the 21st century adopted and queered the ghosthunter and the detective, in line with the purpose to repopulate history with marginalized voices who had been either missing in, discriminated against or villainized by the predominant historical narrative. Through the analysis of The Secret Casebook of Simon Feximal (2015) by KJ Charles and Shadow of Justice (2019) by Jess Faraday, this presentation will examine this queer take on the ghosthunter and the detective as characters excavating the truth, ensuring justice, and giving voice to the silenced.
